Vintage Dreams on the Catwalk: My Macleay Valley Fashion Show Debut

Enjoy the show! YouTube Video

The collection was a colourful mix of pieces I’ve lovingly brought together over time – some were my own original designs, some were unique off-the-rack finds, and others were treasured true vintage garments. On the runway, we showcased everything from lingerie and garage style, to rockabilly and psychobilly flair, and both vintage-inspired and true vintage daywear.

It was a joy to see vintage fashion come to life on the catwalk, and even more so to share that vision with a fresh audience.

This moment was actually a little manifestation in motion. I remember being at Sydney Fashion Week in 2014, sitting in the audience, and turning to Mr Noel to say, “Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see vintage fashion take its place on the catwalk?” I had no idea that years later I’d be doing exactly that.

My journey to the fashion show runway started with a casting call to be a model in the show. But in a lovely twist of fate, I was instead invited to join the designer line-up to present a full vintage collection. It was unexpected, a little scary – and incredibly exciting.

The models who walked for me were a brilliant mix – some were experienced pin-ups who styled their own vintage hair and makeup beautifully. Others were fashion models working across multiple designers, with professional styling that leaned more modern. Some had never walked a runway before. Others had never struck a pin-up pose in their lives.

But every single one of them brought heart, grace and glam to the stage. It was a new experience for all of us, and a magical one at that.

My dream is – and always has been – to bring the spirit of vintage fashion to a new generation. Seeing that vision unfold on the Macleay Valley Fashion Show runway was a moment I’ll never forget.

With love and lipstick,
Miss Dale Velvet-Rose
